Second Prize Winner

The Ecclesiastical Insurance Group
Best Church Web Site Competition 2002

The Judges said of the prize winning site (http://www.spaldingchurches.org/mandn/):

"As soon as you enter this site you are invited to explore more. The pages are inviting, easy to read and visually clear. All of the headings are relevant and most users would find it difficult to get lost in this site. The site is up to date with up to the minute information. The menus are clear, and in the cascading menus, that appear for the following levels is quite revolutionary."

"The home page is completely appropriate to the subsequent pages, and the users do not have to go past the home page to know what is going to be viewed next. The most commonly request information readily available and clearly leads to subsequent pages."

"The site is written by someone who obviously understands that writing for the web is a completely different medium to writing in the printed word. The site has an excellent mixture of graphics, pictures and text and uses them well."

"The objectives of the site are to ‘provide information to parishioners, and to spread God’s word as widely as possible to all who care to look’. This site achieves that with flying colours."

In all, 600 entries were received after the competition’s launch in February 2002. The judges were:

Harry Tomczyk – Corporate Marketing Manager for Ecclesiastical Insurance
Alexander Nicoll – Head of internal communications at the Church of England
Martin Brasier - a partner in Melchior Telematics, an online technology company specialising in church, charity and educational website design.

All of the top three winners were chosen because they achieved what they set out to do; the content was appropriate for the audience they were aiming at; and all of the links were relevant, as was the ability to contact people.
